ES has felt really noisy lately. Choppy, messy order flow, ignition algos interrupting price action, better moves during ETH than RTH, lots of three steps forward two steps back. This afternoon was bang your head against the wall until you pass out and stop trading. Sign of the times perhaps.
Appreciate it! There’s no specific reason behind 17, it’s just a personal sweet spot that I’ve gotten comfortable with over time.
I’ll adjust it depending on volatility as well, typically scaling down to around 14–15 ticks when things are quieter, and up toward 20 when volatility picks up and too many bars start printing.
It's worth clarifying that you can buy the charts you see; Smash has the information in the description of his substack, send him an email, they're worth it.
Yes, pretty much everything you see in this newsletter is done in Sierra. It has a sharp learning curve...if you dig in to the program you'll quickly appreciate how well Smash's charts are put together.
Great analysis from yesterday Smash.

Hey Smash, why do you use a 17 range for your footprint opposed to a 20 or 16? Great analysis as always, thanks for all you do!

Thank you for this great newsletter. I took advantage of the short mentioned in the newsletter, taking it with minimal risk due to the conditions.
Great analysis and review, I have a question, what tool/program do you use for charting?
https://sierrachart.com
Do you know if all indicators such as footprint, VP, TPO, etc are native of the platform?
